This is a fairly long tunnel under the river, handy if you don’t want to wait for the ferry. Cross one of the oldest tunnels under the Thames and feel like you’re going back in time.
The tunnel is in the Victorian structure, while the tunnel itself has been refurbished. It is very useful when public transport is down and you need to cross the river or when you’re on your bicycle.
The foot tunnel is there for the convenience and enjoyment of all. You can go downstairs/upstairs using the actual stairs or a huge lift. All that is left then is just to walk through the path.
So if you want a piece of history, this tunnel is an interesting piece of more like a 19th century engineering. Utterly fascinating and bizarre!
